One side is green and the other is red so bocce officials can quickly signal to both bocce teams who's turn it is to roll the ball. Designed for hard of hearing athletes and eliminates confusion over whether the call of "green" or "red" was meant to indicate who has the point or who rolls next, which can quicken the game.
